Add Watermark to PDF
Add professional watermarks to PDF documents for branding, draft marking, or document protection. Apply text watermarks with custom fonts and styling, or overlay image watermarks like logos. Control position, opacity, rotation angle, and choose between single placement or tiled patterns across the entire page.
What does this tool do?
The Watermark tool overlays text or image stamps onto every page of a PDF document. Text watermarks support custom text entry, font size adjustment, opacity control, and rotation angle. Image watermarks accept PNG or JPEG files, preserving transparency in PNGs. Nine positioning anchors allow placement at any corner, edge, or center. The tile mode repeats the watermark across the entire page for maximum coverage. All watermarks are permanently embedded into the page content.
How it works
Using MuPDF's content editing capabilities, the tool inserts watermark graphics into each page's content stream. For text watermarks, it renders the specified text using PDF font resources, applying transforms for positioning, rotation, and opacity. For image watermarks, it embeds the image resource and positions it according to your settings. In tile mode, the watermark repeats at calculated intervals across the page. The result is a standard PDF with watermarks as native page content, visible in any viewer and printed automatically.

How to use
- 1
Upload your PDF
Drag the document you want to watermark onto the drop zone. The tool loads the PDF and prepares the watermarking interface.
- 2
Choose watermark type
Select Text to type your own watermark message, or Image to upload a PNG/JPEG watermark logo or stamp.
- 3
Configure text watermark
For text watermarks: type your text (e.g., 'DRAFT', 'CONFIDENTIAL'), adjust font size (recommended 48-72pt for visibility), set opacity (20-30% for subtle, 50%+ for prominent), and rotation angle (45° is common for draft marks).
- 4
Or configure image watermark
For image watermarks: upload your PNG or JPEG file. Adjust opacity to blend with page content, set rotation if needed, and position using the anchor grid.
- 5
Set position and mode
Click one of nine anchor positions on the grid. Enable Tile mode to repeat the watermark across the entire page in a grid pattern.

Apply and download
Click Apply Watermark. The watermarked PDF downloads with stamps on every page according to your settings.
Common use cases
Mark draft documents
Add prominent DRAFT watermarks to preliminary documents to prevent confusion with final versions during review cycles.
Brand client deliverables
Overlay your company logo as a subtle watermark on reports, proposals, and client documents for professional branding.
Confidential document marking
Stamp confidential documents with CONFIDENTIAL or INTERNAL USE ONLY to indicate restricted distribution.
Copyright and ownership protection
Tiled watermarks with copyright notices discourage unauthorized copying and distribution of valuable content.
Tips & best practices
- For draft watermarks, use 45° rotation, 20-30% opacity, and large font (80pt) for visibility without obstructing content
- Logo watermarks work best at 10-20% opacity positioned in page corners
- Tile mode is most effective for protecting sensitive content from screenshot extraction
- Test your watermark settings on a single page first by creating a one-page test document
